The urban fire-fighting vehicle of the Sapadores Fire Department Faro has, since March 1st, an operational Automatic Defibrillator. The corporation thus also integrates the External Automatic Defibrillation program of the Portuguese Red Cross.

With a total investment of «about 5 thousand euros», which included the acquisition of the equipment itself, the batteries, the licensing of the equipment, the indispensable training of firefighters, as well as the necessary computer update, «we took another step towards to equip our firefighters with the essential equipment so that they can continue to carry out their mission with the greatest possible efficiency», says the Chamber of Faro.

The existence of this value in this first intervention vehicle will reduce the time required to apply defibrillation, a fundamental procedure for the survival of victims of cardiorespiratory arrest.

As for the Automatic External Defibrillation program, provided for in the National Automatic External Defibrillation Plan of the Portuguese Red Cross, the Sapadores de Faro now integrate it in a partnership with the Delegation of the Portuguese Red Cross Faro/ Loulé.

In 2016, the Fire Department of Sapadores de Faro registered a total of 3039 occurrences, in which it involved its operational resources in the rescue of people and goods.

Of these, 127 were urban fires that occurred in the municipality, involving a total of 647 firefighters and 220 combat and assistance vehicles.
