A motion calling for more funds to be transferred from the Chamber to the Parish Councils of Faro was unanimously approved at the last Municipal Assembly of Faro. The extra money will be used for "paving paths, sidewalks and other small works", according to the Parish Council of Santa Bárbara de Nexe, whose president Sérgio Martins was the author of the proposal.

The communist mayor justified his request with the fact that the Chamber of Faro having "much more money than expected for 2017", namely "880 thousand euros more coming from the State Budget and interest on late payment of IMI".

According to what is foreseen in the proposal, the municipal executive led by the social democrat Rogério Bacalhau should now “start negotiations with the Parish Council of the Municipality of Faro, carry out a budget review of the aforementioned funds and enter into inter-administrative contracts with the Parish Councils for the decentralization of competencies and transfer of funds for paving paths, arrangements and implementation of sidewalks and other small repair works in public spaces, in a manner to respond to so many small problems that affect the residents of Faro».

The Santa Bárbara Junta executive now hopes that “the Chamber will comply and be quick in conducting the process and transferring the funds”, fulfilling a motion that was approved by all municipal deputies.
