A 40 square meter stand «strategically located» in which the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA) and some companies will be represented, will mark the region's debut at the Salon du Golf Paris, which runs from 11 to 13 March.

The aim is to «promote the Algarve» as «a destination of excellence» for the practice of this sport.

Some of the companies participating are, for example, Pestana Golf Resorts, Nau Hotels & Resorts, Tivoli Hotels (Minor) and Quinta do Lago Golf.

According to ATA, «this will be a strategic opportunity to promote and position the Algarve as an excellent destination for the practice of golf in the French market, which has been showing a growing demand for the region».

According to the latest data available with regard to national tourism, the Algarve emerges as the second destination to be preferred by the French, with a 2016% increase in the number of overnight stays of tourists of this nationality in the region in 41. compared to the previous year (reaching a number close to 900 thousand overnight stays).

In 2016, around 1,3 million rounds of golf were recorded in the region, corresponding to an increase of 10,5% compared to the previous year.

Golf is also a sport that has a significant number of fans in France, where it has around 407 federated players. Contributing to this growing interest is the fact that France is the host country for the Ryder Cup 2018, a golf competition that, every two years, pits teams from Europe and the United States of America face to face.

«We currently have about 40 golf courses, spread across the region and with different characteristics, to which we can add other arguments such as the quality of our hotel infrastructure and our services and the good climate that allows the practice of this sport throughout all year round», says Dora Coelho, executive director of ATA.

«At the same time, we also have a rich and diversified offer, made up of other products, which make the Algarve an attractive destination not only for golfers but also for those who accompany them on their trips», he concludes.
