A tribute, by Luís Ene, Rui Cabrita, an actor with roots in Messines, who died in 2016, to open the 10th edition of Festival T – Albufeira International Theater Festival, on the 23rd, at 21 pm, or the delivery of the Vicente de Teatro Awards, on the 30th, after the theater play “A Noite before the Forest”, by Bernard-Marie Koltès, who will take the stage at 25 pm, are some of the initiatives of the Festival T, which takes place from the 21rd to the 30th of March at the Albufeira Municipal Auditorium.

Actor and stage director, with extensive work in various areas related to theater, Rui Cabrita collaborated in two situations with ac:t:c – Contemporary Theater Company, the organizer of this festival.

Also on the first day of this event, after this tribute, the show “O Sal de Marim” will go on stage, with staging and text by Luísa Monteiro and interpretations by Cátia Cassapo, Josefa Lima, Larisa Maria and Cheila Correia and technique by Miguel Martinho , from c:t:c.

This is «a work that starts from contemporaneity to highlight the figure of Felipa de Sousa, the Tavirense who names the main International Prize for the Rights of Homosexuals», says the Câmara de Albufeira.

"As a background, there are the successive condemnations of homosexual women from the exile of Marim, by the Holy Office, through correction houses, mental health houses where the most common practice was electric shocks, to incarcerations in cellars by the families themselves,” he adds.

The dramatic work is thus the result of documentary research and the living testimonies of those who lived these realities.

“O Menino da Burra”, by Luís Campião, with exhibition at 21:30 pm, will be, on the 24th, Friday, one of the attractions.

In this work, the author is also the interpreter of the monologue, being accompanied to the accordion, live, by Samuel Pilar and using the technique of Manuel Neiva.

At the “O Menino da Burra” tavern, the son of an ex-combatant of the colonial war invites his would-be customer for a special brandy: a brandy “capable of raising the dead”.

«About the brandy, the figure of the tavern keeper recounts episodes in his father's life during his passage through the war. In a record that seeks to rescue the figure of the storyteller for the stage, and based on some real episodes, collected through interviews, “O Menino da Burra” addresses the trauma of war and the consequences of post-traumatic stress in its “news victims”, says the municipality of Albufeires.

Saturday, the 25th, will also be a theater day in Albufeira: at 18 pm, “Os Palavristas”, an Algarve group dedicated to writing and speaking of their own poetry, presents at the foyer from the Municipal Auditorium the moment entitled “Como Serejas”.

For this title, the group says it was inspired by the expression “conversations are like cherries, one after another”. «The use of the serejas neologism intends to provoke different sensations, appealing to the being that is and will be uninterruptedly, continuously: this movement suggests to us one of the principles of Futurism, so this simple performance is a thanks to the “words” before us». explain.

The show at 21 pm will be in charge of “Teatro Estúdio Fontenova” and features the text “The Night Before the Forest”, by the French playwright Bernard-Marie Koltès, one of the most appreciated names in the theater of the century. XX.

With interpretation by Eduardo Dias and staging by José Maria Dias, the play by Bernard-Marie Koltés presents the encounter of two beings that wander in the night, foreigners and marginalized.

«The “Night Before the Forest” is a descent into hell. It is the voice of an immigrant from a marginal to an excluded. We don't know his name or who he is, only that he's alone and that he talks, talks nonstop. A vigorous cry of love that is lost in a cold and rainy night», says the Câmara de Albufeira.

As for the Vicente Theater Awards, which were handed out shortly thereafter, they intend to honor a Vicente, who is not Gil, but… Beato Vicente, who was born in the castle of Albufeira.

In the 1st edition of this award will be distinguished, in various categories, «the local actors who have spent over these 10 years at Festival T, as well as some bodies involved in this meeting», informs the City Council of Albufeira.

In the future, the Vicente de Teatro Award will distinguish actors, directors and playwrights from the Algarve.

Born in 1590, Beato Vicente was sent to Lisbon at the age of 14 to study Arts, such as calligraphy, drawing, oratory and music.

«He began to be talked about in Lisbon in 1612, not only for being a good-looking young man and always followed by people who were friends with the arts and laughter, but also for his natural leadership skills. He plays various instruments, sings and composes, draws masterfully, is perky with foreign languages and also enjoys the art of fencing. He used the streets as his privileged stage», tells the Municipality of Albufeira.

«Later, he studied Medicine, became interested in the world of publishing, and with that he ended up surrendering to Theology, at the Convento da Graça, of the Order of Saint Augustine. In 1617, at the age of 27, he was ordained a priest and made himself into the world. He was one of the martyrs of Nagasaki, where, in addition to being a leader of the Japanese people, he was also dedicated to sewing kimonos for disadvantaged girls in the villages», he adds.

Sunday, the 26th, starts at 11:00 am with “A Galinha dos Ovos Colors”, a show for children over 3 years of age and which promises to start the youngsters with laughter, with the signature of Tânia Silva and Igor Arrais, of the group “Fera Cultural” .

The performance “Os Outros”, which will also take the stage on the 26th, is, like “A Galinha dos Ovos Colors”, dedicated to the younger audience. The stage director is Maria Marques, and has interpretations by Anaísa Neves, Beatriz Santinho, Bianca Goulart, Carolina Santinho and Nicoleta Janau, 8th grade students at the Professora Diamantina Negrão school – Agrupamento de Ferreiras. Both shows are free for children up to 12 years old.

Also on Sunday, there are two sessions of the show “Três Irmãs”, at 17 pm and 00 pm, based on texts by Luísa Monteiro, Valério Romão and Rui Pina Coelho, who were inspired by the homonymous work by Anton Tchekov.

This production by “UmColetivo” was the winner of the “Best Show of the Year” by TimeOut/Lisbon. Cátia Terrinca, the actress who plays the three characters (Irina, Macha and Olga), was, in turn, considered “Best Actress of the Year”.

The show will have two sessions as each one holds only 40 people, who will be led to the car parking basement adjacent to the Auditorium, they will travel through the emergency exit areas to the stage and from here they will watch the last monologue in the Foyer.

On Monday, World Theater Day (March 27), at 21:30 pm, there will be “O Milagre”, with free admission, signed by Luísa Monteiro, with interpretations by José Sousa, João Sousa, Inês Colaço and Roberto Leandro and technique of Miguel Martinho.

For the Municipality of Albufeira, this is «a wordless spectacle, built from didactics and which deals with the life of three little shepherds who get bored with the time spent among the sheep».

About this work, Luísa Monteiro says: «The so-called “miracle” that took place in 1917, seduces me with its wonderful content. The Portuguese are extraordinary creators of myths! What they did to the children is the flip side of the story. I regularly imagine what a childhood would be like among the barrenness of those hills. But childhood is the creator of enchantments, it lives by playing, there is laughter in silence, stars and howls in the imagination. I believe in laughter as the most visible and concrete face of God. […] it is a rescue of the specter of those childhoods, of posthumous laughter».

Festival T is organized by c:t:c, with the Municipality of Albufeira and has the support of 365 Algarve.

Tickets can be purchased at Municipal Consumer Information Center (CIAC) and Lídia Jorge Municipal Library (on weekdays from 9:00 am to 16:30 pm) or at the Albufeira Municipal Auditorium (on the day of the show from 19:30 pm to 21:15 pm). Admission to each show costs 4 euros.
