35 students from Escola Poeta António Aleixo, in Portimão, attended, on February 1st, a session of an ordinary Chamber meeting, in the main hall of the town hall. The invitation to the 12th E class was made by the Municipality, as part of the celebrations of the 40 years of Local Government.

According to the Municipality of Portimão, the initiative had the objective of «raising students' awareness of the importance of the policy carried out at the municipal level and the impact it has on their daily lives».

Young people were encouraged to ask questions to Isilda Gomes, mayor of Portimão, and "to make suggestions on possible measures they felt could positively impact the lives of residents."

According to the municipality, a student questioned the mayor "about the support of the Chamber to new music festivals in the municipality, which pointed out the new Percussion Festival in Portimão, as well as the events included in the March Youth Program".

Isilda Gomes also showed «the availability of, together with the students, to study the hypothesis of holding a festival with the proposed characteristics».

Another student suggested reinforcing the Vai & Vem lines between three of the main residential areas of Portimão – Pedra Mourinha, Três Bicos and Avenida 25 de Abril – and Praia da Rocha on Fridays and Saturdays, between two and four in the morning. , to make it easier for young people to travel at night. According to the Portimão Chamber, Isilda Gomes promised to consider the matter.

The mayor also explained to the students the various procedures of an ordinary chamber session, and the students stayed to watch the discussion and voting of matters that were on the agenda of the meeting.
