The Department of Orthopedics of the Private Hospital of Gambelas was named International Training Center for knee prostheses, for specific instrumentation, by the Education and Evidence Center of Smith & Nephew, a company that is the world leader in this type of prosthesis.

According to Grupo Hospital Particular do Algarve (HPA), «this attribution is the result of work that has already evolved for several years and reflects the commitment and dedication of a vast team, led by Dr. João Paulo Sousa».

The choice of an international training center requires, explains the HPA, «the fulfillment of several requirements, which naturally include the casuistry, as a determinant that values the acquired experience, but also other parameters such as the clinical excellence of all the processes and procedures involved , where the safety and satisfaction of customers naturally lie».

With this attribute, the Department of Orthopedics at the Hospital de Gambelas «is at the level of the best international centers in North America, Germany or the Netherlands, in terms of the Visionaire surgical technique», adds the HPA.

The training program includes two days, where visiting surgeons have the opportunity to learn the technique in a hospital environment and with live surgeries, and the possibility to discuss surgical procedures, techniques and devices.

The HPA adds that, «with regard to scientific dissemination carried out in the last four years and belonging to the portfolio Visionaire Clinical Study Collection, published by the Gambelas Group of Orthopedics in 2015, was considered the second best clinical trial randomized of the world, in terms of methodological quality and scientific interest».

As for the dissemination of communications at national and international scientific events, this project has 33 participants.
