The 1st Silves Capital of Orange Show, which takes place at Fissul, opens its doors this Friday, February 17th. The event will be attended by around 50 exhibitors linked to citrus growing, wines, agriculture, regional products, sweets, crafts and gastronomy, with the main objective of «highlighting citrus growing in the municipality of Silves, its producers and the subjects that are of interest for the improvement of this sector».

The event will officially open at 10:30 am, with the presence of the executive of the Chamber of Silves, the president of the Algarve Tourism Region and the regional director of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Algarve.

The opening day begins with the “Laranja XXI” conference, where national and Spanish experts will debate central themes for citrus production and producers. In terms of entertainment, groups of schools in the county will, throughout the day, liven up the event. At night it will be the turn of the Argentine fado singer Freire to take the stage.

On Saturday, the 18th, the Chamber of Silves highlights the regional cocktail competition, which “will reveal the best bar professionals in the region”. As part of this activity, there will also be two workshops, one on new bar trends and the other on the use of Águas de Castelo.

At 11:00 am, the little ones will have their own entertainment taking place in the enclosure. In the afternoon there will be two presentations, one related to “Celtonite, what it is and its contribution to high-yield citrus farming” and another with the presentation of products by the company Aquagri. At the artistic level, the participants in the Young Artists project, promoted by the Municipality, perform at 15:00 pm. The night ends with the performance of Deolinda.

On the last day of the exhibition, the morning will be filled with the Lovers' Walk, a sporting activity that is part of the Algarve's march-race calendar. The Young Artists return, also on this day, at 11:00 am to the venue, with some of their performances.

The afternoon is dedicated to traditional music with the performance of the Singing Group “Os Laranjinhas”, at 14 pm, and the Folklore Group of SB Messines, at 00 pm. Simultaneously, CNA/Viver a Serra will address the future of beekeeping in Portugal.

In terms of gastronomy, there will be space for a showcooking by Chef Luis Santos, where orange will be highlighted. This initiative will count on the presence of some restaurants that, according to the Chamber of Silves, "will bring the flavors and aromas of orange and other citrus fruits to visitors". The last day of the event ends with the performance of the traditional Portuguese music group Vá de Viró, at 16 pm.

The event will also feature street entertainment, an exhibition of machines, a children's space “Laranjinha Kids” and the exhibition “Ambientes Citrinos – Poemas e Perspectivas” during every day of the event.
