The Casa do Povo of Santo Estêvão (CPSE), in the municipality of Tavira, anticipates Carnival with a «grand» show by Manuel João Vieira Power Trio and his special guest Miss Manu de La Roche, scheduled for the 18th of February , at 22 pm.

The Vieira Power Trio is the mini and compact version of Manuel João Vieira's bands, «interpreting themes of always and never», stresses the CPSE. It is composed by Manuel João Vieira, Gimba (the great Eugénio Lopes) and Zélito (José Luis Desitat), ex various things and ex Catita and ex Ena pá 2000.

"They also interpret some unusual originals, as well as songs from the past, especially in times of greater alcoholism," adds the CPSE.

They are, on this tour, "accompanied by a young lady, Miss Manu La Roche, who will brighten the musical moments with her friendly and suggestive female presence".

Carnival is a party that is marked by the “farewell to meat”, as its own Latin name “levale meat” indicates it, and after that there is a great period of abstinence and fasting, starting on Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. In contrast to Lent, a time of penance and deprivation, these days are called "fat", especially Fat Tuesday, also known by the French name Mardi Gras.

In the Middle Ages, in preparation for Carnival, there was a great concentration of popular festivities. Each place and region played in its own way, “usually in a purposefully extravagant way, in keeping with its customs,” continues the CPSE.

Therefore, in Santo Estêvão, a village in the interior of the municipality of Tavira, «we started the Carnival festivities in the best way…. without being too abusive, no one will be indifferent to Manuel João Power Trio…»
