The Closing Gala of Lagoa “Cidade do Vinho 2016” is scheduled for the 18th of February, starting at 20:30 pm, at the Centro de Congressos do Arade, in Parchal. In this ceremony, in addition to a balance of the year, “the testimony” will be given to Madalena, in the Azores, which will be the “City of Wine 2017”. The gala ends with a concert by João Pedro Pais.
The event begins with a tasting of Algarve wines promoted by the CVA – Algarve Wine Commission, and, at 21 pm, the official ceremony begins.
According to the Câmara de Lagoa, «in addition to several interventions by the entities present that promote the attribution of the “City of Wine” award, promotional videos of Lagoa and Madalena (Pico – Azores) will be shown, balance images will be projected of what was the year of Lagoa “City of Wine 206”, ending with the passing of the AMPV flag from Lagoa to the new award-winning “City of Wine 2017”, Madalena».
The performance of João Pedro Pais is scheduled for 21:15 pm.
Despite no longer bearing the “City of Wine” award, the municipality says that «that doesn't mean that Lagoa will continue to want to maintain its characteristic of wine-growing “capital”.
The Câmara de Lagoa recalls that, within the scope of Lagoa “City of Wine 2016”, “more than a hundred events were held, of which FATACIL stands out, with its emphasis on wine and gastronomy, not only in Lagoa and from the Algarve, but also from almost all regions of the country».
The municipality adds that «Lagoa has established itself as a land of vines and wines and dignified an activity existing in the municipality for over 2000 years, giving visibility to the work of wine producers throughout the Algarve and raising awareness of the enormous potential and importance of wine tourism» and reveals that «in a continuous effort, the third edition of the “Lagoa Wine Show” is already being prepared».
