Filipe Santos, adapted swimming athlete from Futebol Clube (FC) Ferreiras, beat, on February 18th, the world record of 25 meters freestyle, in class S21 (Down Syndrome), with the mark of 14,15 seconds .

The swimmer also surpassed a European record, which already belonged to him, by swimming the 25 meters moth in 15,89 seconds.

South African Sean O'Neil was the previous holder of the world record, which had not been beaten since 2007. At the time, this swimmer took 14,56 seconds to complete the 25 meters freestyle.

As for the European record, this had been set by Filipe Santos at 15,92 seconds.

The Algarve athlete also guaranteed the minimum for the European DSISO, for athletes with Down Syndrome, which will take place in Paris, by doing the 100 meters styles in 1:26.51 minutes, and the 50 freestyles in 32,588 minutes.

Besides Filipe Santos, José Vieira, Alexandre Silva and João Pedro Antunes also participated in the National Adapted Swimming Championship, at Mealhada. And the results were very positive for all athletes.

Filipe Santos was crowned absolute national champion (S21), in the 50 meters moth and freestyles, in the 100 meters freestyle, 25 meters freestyle, 100 meters freestyle, 200 meters freestyle, 4×100 meters styles and 4×100 meters freestyle, conquering, in total eight gold medals.

In turn, José Vieira was also the absolute national champion (S21) in the 25 and 50 meters breaststroke, in the 4×100 meters styles and in the 4×100 meters freestyle, winning four gold medals. He was also the absolute national vice-champion (S21) in the 200 meters breaststroke, 100 meters breaststroke and beat the national record in the 25 meters breaststroke.

Alexandre Silva and João Pedro Antunes were finally absolute national champions (S21) in 4×100 meters styles and 4×100 meters freestyle.

FC Ferreiras' adapted swimming team was the most awarded in the S21 class with eight individual gold medals, two in relay, and two silver medals.

The club's management has already expressed its satisfaction for this world title and all the national and European records that its athletes have just conquered. “The results are the result of a very serious work, not always easy, but full of dedication and respect for our great athletes. It is not at all easy to bring four athletes together in a single relay team», he says.
