The Chamber of Faro approved, on Monday, the motion “Ria Formosa: No to demolitions, yes to requalification”, proposed by the CDU. The document demands recognition of the social, economic, historical and cultural value of the urban centers of the barrier islands of Ria Formosa and an end to demolitions.
The PCP, which has an elected councilor in the executive, stresses that "at a time when the nightmare of demolitions returns to the barrier islands and when the administrative possessions of houses to be demolished are already marked for the next 22nd of February", presented a motion in the camera of Faro so that it could take a stand against the PS Government's decision to resume demolitions and express solidarity and support for the local communities».
The motion was approved by a majority (5 – 4), with the votes in favor of the CDU councilor and the PSD councilors and the votes against by the PS councilors.
In the motion, the Government and the new Board of Directors of Sociedade Polis Litoral Ria Formosa are criticized for, instead of “proceeding to the requalification of all urban centers and bathing spaces on the barrier islands of Ria Formosa and also to the requalification of their system lagoon, announced that they will start on February 22 the administrative takeover of houses in the urban centers of Hangares and the Farol, thus bringing back to the affected populations the nightmare of demolitions».
The document also reaffirms «the demand that the Government of the Socialist Party reorient the Sociedade Polis Litoral Ria Formosa, SA, now with a new Board of Directors, to a different course of action, within the framework of the recognition of its social, economic and historical value. and cultural aspects of the urban centers of the barrier islands, and put an end to the process of demolition of houses and move forward with the process of requalification of all the urban centers and the bathing spaces in question».
