The application of the «Municipal Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change» of Lagos to the Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources (PO SEUR) was approved and the Municipality will have 36.390 euros to implement this plan, which will have three phases, and is expected to be concluded in December.

Thus, the first of these will be «the stage of municipal climate assessment and scenario», which involves «current and future knowledge of the region and municipality». This is followed by the “analysis and identification of climate impacts” and the “assessment of adaptive capacity and current and future vulnerabilities”.

Finally, the last phase concerns the "definition and evaluation" with a "programme of adaptation measures/actions", in a "framework for monitoring and managing the Plan and Integration into local planning".

Within the scope of the notice-tender for «Planning in Adaptation to Climate Change» of this PO SEUR, 17 applications were approved, at national level, resulting in a total monetary value of 2.906.229,77 euros.

Portugal, recalls the Câmara de Lagos, «assumed the objective of strengthening the capacity to adapt to climate change, contributing to the implementation of the National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change (ENAAC)».

It aims to “update and promote knowledge about climate change” and assess both impacts and “adaptation capacity and prioritize the implementation of measures”.

In addition, it also wants to promote the integration of adaptation to climate change in public and sectorial policies of greater relevance and in the main instruments of territorial planning at national, regional and local levels», concludes the Lacobrigense autarchy.
