Pedro Martins, badminton athlete, the Rancho Folclorico do Calvário, Manuel Gamboa and General Rocha Vieira were some of the personalities and associations of the municipality of Lagoa honored at the gala «A Nossa Gente, A Nossa Identidade», which took place on the 13th. de Janeiro, at the Centro de Congressos do Arade, in Parchal.
In addition to these honorees, 62 associations were also distinguished. In his opening speech, Francisco Martins, president of the Lagoa Chamber, began by thanking the associations present, expressing his recognition to them and to all the people of Lagos for the work that was not always easy in the various areas of their activities.
The mayor of Lagoa referred to each of the honorees, thanking the fact that, «always and everywhere, they promote the council, proudly claiming to be sons of the land that honors them», adds the Lagoa municipality in a press release .
Francisco Martins also said that «the most important thing that Lagoa has is its people» and that this gala is «held to perpetuate in the future those who are now honored and who belong to the group that built this municipality over the years».
This gala, which ended the 2016 celebrations under the theme "Our People, Our Identity", featured performances by Ricardo Sousa, Luís Mira, from Teatro Boa Esperança, by Cristina Silva, from Rancho Folclórica do Calvário, by Luana Velasques, from the Grupo de Cantares do Parchal, from the Grupo de Cantares Fonte Nova, by Edmundo Vieira, from Volume 2, by Môce dum Cabréste and Beto Kalulu.
