António Eusébio, president of the PS Algarve and deputy to the Assembly of the Republic, was chosen last night by the Farenses socialists as a candidate for the Municipal Council of Faro, with 86,2% of votes in favor.
Two weeks ago, during the annual dinner of the Algarve socialists, Eusébio had already admitted, in statements to the Sul Informação, be available for this challenge.
António Eusébio, who was, for 12 years, mayor of São Brás de Alportel, «where he promoted the modernization and transformation of that council, was the first mayor to develop and implement participatory budgeting in the Algarve, being frequently recognized by many mayors as an example of good management and leadership», stresses the Municipality of Faro from the PS in a statement.
To highlight António Eusébio's links to Faro, the same note points out that the candidate was born in the Algarve capital, 50 years ago, in the former Hospital of Santa Casa da Misericórdia, having made «all his journey in the capital of the Algarve, having been a student at the former João de Deus Liceu and the school Tomás Cabreira, where he would later become a teacher as well. He is also a professor at the University of Algarve».
Leader of the PS in the Algarve since 2012, he is currently a member of the Assembly of the Republic, being a member of the parliamentary committees on Economy, Education and Higher Education and Defense.
António Eusébio's candidacy, which the socialists point out as a “proved mayor”, represents “the Socialist Party's strong bet for victory in the Chamber of Faro and is based on a strategy of change and progress for the municipality of Faro, based on the people and the environmental, heritage and cultural qualities of the county, driving a new vision and ambition for the affirmation of the Capital of the Algarve as the main center of business, university and social cohesion dynamism».
