António Eusébio is available to be the PS candidate for the Chamber of Faro. The final decision should only be known at the end of the month, but the council assumes that it welcomes that the former mayor of São Brás de Alportel, and current deputy, has offered to face Rogério Bacalhau in local elections.

«I made myself available, given the great challenge that the local authorities represent for the PS, and for the country, to be one of the candidates for Faro», revealed António Eusébio to Sul Informação, on the sidelines of the PS Algarve Federation New Year's Dinner, which took place this Friday, in Faro.

Eusébio stresses, however, that the decision “will have to be taken by the local political commission. We will wait with the greatest serenity, with the perspective of choosing the best teams».

At the council level, António Eusébio's decision was welcomed. Luís Graça colleague from the parliamentary bench and president of the PS/Faro he highlighted, in statements to our newspaper, "the fact that António Eusébio has made himself available for this municipal challenge and is willing to participate in it by leading a candidacy".

Luís Graça

For Luís Graça, António Eusébio «was a great mayor, he was an extraordinary mayor of São Brás de Alportel. It did work, left the Chamber with a positive balance, had a good management directed towards people and companies and enriched the municipality. Having someone with his municipal experience available to apply to the local authorities is very good».

Even so, Luís Graça emphasizes that, despite the availability, «the PS has statutes and bodies that will meet throughout the month of January and we will have a decision between the end of January and the beginning of February on the candidacy that the PS will present» .

Asked about the availability of other candidates, willing to lead a socialist candidacy for the Chamber of Faro, Luís Graça was evasive and once again emphasized “the value that Eusébio has as a former mayor” and considered that the president of the PS/Algarve Federation “can replace Faro on the political map. I register with great satisfaction that he has made himself available for that fight».

Pedro Marques, Minister of Infrastructure and Planning, was the special guest of the evening and he also praised António Eusébio's decision: «it was so much easier to sit in the comfort of the Assembly of the Republic and not say present in such an important challenge. [António Eusébio] set an enormous example, reaching the front in one of the most important challenges for the future of the Algarve», he said.
