The maritime bars of Alvor, Albufeira, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António are this Tuesday closed to all navigation, due to the strong maritime agitation.

According to the Navy's website, waves that can reach four meters are planned.

These are the only closed bars in mainland Portugal, as those in Póvoa de Varzim are only conditioned to vessels with a draft of more than two meters, while in Vila do Conde vessels must sail only two hours before and after high tide.

In São Martinho do Porto, the bar is restricted due to silting, so navigation must be done with caution and the bar is practiced only at high tide.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts for this Tuesday, on the west coast, waves with 2,5 to 3,5 meters, gradually decreasing to 1,5 to 2,5 meters.

On the south coast, southwestern waves of two to three meters are expected, gradually decreasing to one to two meters.
