An 18-year-old young man, who was in difficulties at sea, near Caneiros beach (West) near the cliff, was rescued today, December 8, by a team from the Lifesaving Station of the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos (ISN). ) of Ferragudo.
The alert was received at the picket of the Maritime Police (PM) in Portimão around 13:30 pm, via the Maritime Operations Center (COMAR).
Immediately, the ISN lifeboat was mobilized to the site, while the PM picket moved to the cliff.
The ISN team managed to recover the person at sea, still conscious, but already in pre-drowning and at the limit of his strength.
The young man was taken to an INEM ambulance next to Estação Salva-vidas.
Simultaneously, the Maritime Police accompanied a relative of the victim, providing him with the necessary support.
At the time of the rescue, the sea had waves of 2,5 meters, so the Maritime Authority recalls that "currently the beaches are unsupervised, so any bathing activities must be carried out with extra care."
“In rough sea situations, such as the current ones, these bathing activities should be avoided”, he concludes.
