José Louro «sown Theater throughout the Algarve» and, this Sunday afternoon, he reaped some of the fruits of his work with the tribute paid to him at Teatro Lethes, in FaroAt presentation of the Maria Veleda Regional Award.
Sower, pedagogue or stage director are some of the adjectives that characterize José Louro, a man who joined Teatro Lethes, full of friends, "moved", and left "relaxed", as he confessed at the end of the ceremony, which was classified by all actors as being “of emotions and affections”.
But the afternoon was also one of reunions with students, friends, former stagemates, family members. At Teatro Lethes, José Louro found «the people he most liked to meet. I am sure that tomorrow I will pass by the street, if I can pass by car, and I say: “that one was there”. There were many», confessed the honoree.
Among several performances by friends and the screening of a mini-documentary produced by the Algarve Film Commission about José Louro, there were many moments when the audience applauded the director.
Luís Vicente, who founded ACTA – The Algarve Theater Company, together with José Louro, recalled that the winner of the Maria Veleda award trained «secretaries of State, ministers, directors-general or actors».
Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, was not a student of José Louro, but he also said that he was «marked for the future life» by the teacher, with whom he crossed paths at the Liceu de Faro.
The mayor recalled that Louro "helped to rebuild the Lethes Theater from the ashes" and assumed that the city of Faro "has a huge debt of gratitude" to him.
Alexandra Rodrigues Gonçalves, regional director of Culture, in her speech stated that «the history of Theater has its mark» and recalled her work with several young people who «dragged for artistic life».
At the end of the ceremony, Alexandra Gonçalves demonstrated her happiness with the fact that «two opportunities were combined: the existence of the prize, with the candidacy. This is a fair tribute, there is a lot that was thought to be done. In other places, wherever I've been, people talked at a time when Professor Louro could be given a little of what he gave us. The opportunity, with Club Farense presenting the application, arrived, and today the room was filled to make this an unforgettable afternoon for Professor Louro».
For the regional director of Culture, this was a journey «of friends and people marked by his life path, because, in one way or another, we had Professor Louro to contribute to our experience and human development of each one of we".
After many emotional moments, to do justice to José Louro's sense of humour, the ceremony ended with laughter, with a scribble performed by another friend of the honoree, José Cabecinha.
It was at Lethes that José Louro showed a lot of his work and this left the winner of the award satisfied: «being at Lethes [the award ceremony] was important, because it is a mythical place. In a new theater, we got lost in the middle of it all». “I just feel sorry for not having the legs to come here from time to time,” lamented José Louro.
