In Loco will launch in January an action plan with a view to disseminating technical, economic and organizational information relating to the agricultural, agri-food and forestry sectors.
The main objective of “INFOAGRI – Agricultural Information in the Central Algarve” is to “strengthen the primary and secondary sectors, as well as qualify agricultural holdings and locally-based economic activities”, according to the Algarve local development association.
This action plan, financed by European Union Funds, through the PDR 2020, will cover parishes in the municipalities of Albufeira (Guia, Paderne), Faro (Santa Bárbara de Nexe, Union of parishes of Conceição and Estoi), Loulé (Alte, Ameixial, Boliqueime, Salir, São Sebastião, Union of parishes of Querença, Tôr and Benafim), Olhão (Pechão, Union of parishes of Moncarapacho and Fuseta ), São Brás de Alportel, Silves (São Bartolomeu de Messines, São Marcos da Serra) and Tavira (Cachopo, Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo, Union parishes of Luz de Tavira and Santo Estêvão).
“The plan is based on carrying out information actions in all parishes, facilitating access by interested parties. With this work, In Loco intends to respond to the needs of the agricultural, agri-food and forestry areas, detected in the previous Community Support Framework, within the scope of projects developed by the Association itself, such as PROVE, Cordão Verde or the Skills Acquisition Plan and Animation – “Interior of the Central Algarve”», summarized the association.
It is also the intention of the promoters of the initiative to issue a quarterly newsletter, thematic/technical leaflets, as well as a guide to support the legal and fiscal framework of agricultural activity.
Farmers in the territory covered will also benefit from thematic seminars on topics such as the plot, identification of the beneficiary, support to agricultural income, National Land Grant, PDR2020 support measures, micro productions/Local productions, good agricultural practices, legal and fiscal framework and local markets and monetization of farms. The plan also foresees the holding of a workshop, per municipality, on the support of local-based economic activities.
With these actions, In Loco intends to achieve some goals, namely "technically training farmers and entrepreneurs, raising awareness and informing about the adoption of environmentally-friendly agricultural practices, improving the performance of farmers and the efficiency of farms at an environmental and economic level, to strengthen cooperation and association between producers and local entities, seeking to facilitate access to information to support installation and operation and enhance activities, agricultural production and the transformation of local products.
