Photographers from different eras, with very different machines and styles. Choral music sung by children's and youth voices. Awards, smiles and applause. Many people. These were the basic ingredients of the awards ceremony and the opening of the exhibition of the 16th Photographic Race of Portimão, which took place this Saturday, December 10th, at the Portimão Museum.
With the atrium packed with people, the ceremony began with the much applauded performance of Grupo Coral Adágio for children and youth, under the direction of conductor António Alves Pereira. Mainly pieces by Fernando Lopes-Graça were performed, but also other well-paced songs.
And right there, amidst the crowd, some special spectators stood out: a group of photographers from all times, with old cameras in their hands. It was a group of students from the Professional Course of Performing Arts-Interpretation at Escola da Bemposta, who had fun with their performance “Personagens à Solta”. A way of showing that, in a Museum, the past and the present can be linked in many ways. And to demonstrate that photography can be celebrated by connecting the digital images of the Photographic Race to the analog images of old cameras, one of which is over a hundred years old.
This was followed by the awarding of prizes to the winning photographers and the opening of the exhibition with the awarded works. An opportunity for some of the winners to have their work photographed next to their works, as usual, for 16 years.
The show is free of charge and can be seen until April 27, on Tuesdays, from 14:30 pm to 18:00 pm, and from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10:00 am to 18:00 pm.
