Portimão HospitalThe situation of chaos in the emergency department of the Hospital de Portimão denounced by a report broadcast on SIC, on the 1st of December, revived the issue of the lack of professionals and consumables at the Centro Hospitalar do Algarve.

Isilda Gomes, mayor of Portimão, reacted on Facebook, considering that the transmitted images "are shocking and typical of an underdeveloped country" and said that the minister of Health assured him, following the report, that it is time to "turn from words to actions".

The council opposition accuses the mayor of politically taking advantage of the situation and the CDS-PP deputies have already questioned minister Adalberto Fernandes on whether, in fact, he assumed the commitment revealed by Isilda Gomes and what it consists of.

In the SIC report, which shows images from an amateur video, the lack of doctors, the lack of nurses, the lack of sheets, blankets, stretchers, and even cups to give water to patients is denounced. of urine for this purpose.

Isilda Gomes, on Facebook, expressed indignation at the situation and asked for the separation of the Hospital de Portimão and the Hospital de Faro. The mayor revealed that the minister of health “has communicated to me the need forally the current model, having pledged to take a stand by the end of this year. Given what we have just seen, I believe there will be no doubts that the merger of Hospital de Portimão with Hospital de Faro, with the consequent creation of the CHA, was a serious error that must be corrected».

For the mayor of Portimão, “it is high time we moved from words to deeds and that was the assurance given to me by telephone a few moments ago by dr. Adalberto Fernandes. As a mayor, but also as a user, I will not rest until the quality of healthcare in Portimão is restored».

The words of Isilda Gomes deserved a response from the municipal opposition, namely the Servir Portimão coalition, composed of the CDS-PP, MPT and PPM. In a statement signed by José Pedro Caçorino, councilor elected by this coalition, Servir Portimão says that «the deterioration of health care conditions in the Algarve region will only be a cause of surprise or shock for those who have been distracted or who only care about this type of problem on the eve of elections!”

Without ever mentioning Isilda Gomes, the document signed by José Pedro Caçorino considers that, «more than invoking an apparent proximity to Mr. Minister of Health (strange, as it has been totally ineffective in the last year to counter the degradation of health in the region!), urgent measures must be taken!».

In addition, the coalition says it does not accept “the demagoguery and political exploitation of those who, in a serendipitous way, use and abuse the health issue in Portimão to try to win votes! Be it with inconsequential precautionary measures, which constitute a regrettable show off pre-election, or with messages on social networks, whose uses, by the way, are so criticized by other political agents!».

After the CDS-PP sent a set of questions on the situation of health services in the Algarve to the minister in February, the centrist deputies, following this report and the publication by Isilda Gomes on Facebook, once again questioned the Government .

In addition to asking for confirmation of the facts issued in the SIC report, relating to the Emergency Service at the Hospital de Portimão, the CDS deputies asked the minister to comment on the statements published on social networks by Isilda Gomes, who claims to have the commitment of Adalberto Fernandes to resolve the situation, and want to know what that compromise consists of.

CDS-PP MPs also ask what measures the Government intends to take, "immediately, to safeguard and guarantee the quality of health care in this Hospital, which is clearly threatened", or if the Ministry of Health intends to "review the management model of the Centro Hospitalar do Algarve” or auditing the administration of the CHA.

In addition to the political positions, a group of citizens has scheduled a demonstration for next Saturday, at 15 pm, “for the improvement of health conditions at the Hospital de Portimão”.
