Tourists and tourism 1From January to October, the Algarve recorded 17 million overnight stays, surpassing the number that was recorded throughout 2015, according to data from a report by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). This is the first time that the region exceeds the threshold of 17 million overnight stays.

With regard to guests, in this period, the number was 3,76 million, and total income rose to 862,8 million euros.

In 2015, income stood at 758 million euros. With regard to overnight stays, the result achieved is 8,6% higher than that recorded in the same period in 2015, and last year the Algarve received 16,6 million overnight stays.

As for the number of guests, the Algarve also registers a higher number than in the entire previous year, with 3,76 million, against 3,66 million in 2015. This result represents an increase of 9,8% compared to the period last year's counterpart.

For the president of the Algarve Tourism Region, Desidério Silva, «the results now revealed by INE are an excellent Christmas gift that set exceptional milestones achieved by the region, which, year after year, surpasses historical highs, and consolidate the Algarve as the main national tourist destination'.
