UAlg LogoThe University of Algarve (UAlg) regrets the death of Alfredo Bruto da Costa, external member of the General Council of the UAlg, known yesterday, decreeing three days of academic mourning.

Alfredo Bruto da Costa, who was Minister of Social Affairs in the Government of Maria de Lurdes Pintassilgo, took office as an external member of the General Council of UAlg since 20 May 2013.

With a degree in Engineering and a Doctorate in Sociology, he was also Ombudsman of the Misericórdia of Lisbon, president of the Economic and Social Council (CES) and of the National Commission for Justice and Peace. In September 2014, Alfredo Bruto da Costa took office as State Councilor, by designation of the Assembly of the Republic.

The University of Algarve also addresses to the Family and Friends «the most sincere and heartfelt condolences».
