The University Restaurant was inaugurated yesterday, November 7th, on the 1st floor of building 6 of the Campus de Gambelas, from the University of Algarve (UAlg), and will offer the academic community and the general public a menu buffet lines lunch, every day, for 7,5 euros.

The menu includes starters, soup, meat, fish or vegetarian main course, dessert, drink and coffee. «Managed by UAlg's Social Action Services (SAS), with a differentiated menu, this new space also has a group meal service, previously scheduled», explains UAlg.

In addition to the daily menu, the «University Restaurant» now has, on Fridays, the partnership of students from the Hotel Management course at the UAlg School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism, in the preparation of meals and service. Next Friday, November 11th, to mark the day of St. Martin, students will prepare a lunch alluding to the date.

"The remodeling of this restaurant is part of a rehabilitation action that is being implemented by the SAS of UAlg, with a view to improving the quality and offer, which is essentially focused on Accommodation, Bars, Restaurants and other services", says UAlg .

university restaurant 6For António Cabecinha, administrator of the SAS, this remodeling, which has also been carried out in other structures such as bars and residences, entails a financial and human effort that is made on behalf of students. "We want to get closer to the students, bring them to Social Action Services," he said.

Also for António Branco, dean of UAlg, «the remodeling of this new space, open to everyone who wants to come here for lunch, is yet another sign of the University's openness to the population in general».

The dean also explains that the idea of ​​the new name “Restaurant Universitário” is that the entire academic community realizes that no one is discriminated here. «Students, professors, researchers, employees, scholarship holders, all have this space at their disposal, either to bring friends or to socialize», he concludes.
