The «U CAN» project, promoted by the Choices Programme, will give 50 scholarships, with a maximum value of 1500 euros, to needy university students up to 24 years old, and students from the University of Algarve (UAlg) may be contemplated. The registration period runs from the 7th to the 30th of November.

These grants are intended to cover "young descendants of immigrants and refugees" as well as "others than young people who are in a vulnerable socio-economic situation", says the High Commission for Migration, promoter of this initiative.

The aim is always “to avoid dropping out of this study cycle”. The amount given to scholarship recipients can be seen in the “expenses with tuition fees, school material and travel on public transport”.

In addition to the scholarship, «U CAN» guarantees support to young people, through the dynamization of a Network of Mentors, with a central objective of the project being the accompaniment of each scholarship holder, by a person with higher education, who supports them in their academic and personal path.

In the total of the two previous editions of the “U CAN” project, 96 scholarships were awarded, with 94 scholarship holders achieving good academic performance in most subjects, and 66 mentors were involved.

Anyone who wants to apply for this scholarship can do so here and send it by e-mail to [email protected] or submit by mail to Programa Escolhas, Rua dos Anjos, No 66, 3 andar, 1150-039 Lisbon.
