alcoutim sec of stateAlcoutim received a visit from the Assistant Secretary of State and Internal Administration Isabel Oneto on the 2nd of November, and Osvaldo Gonçalves, president of the Chamber, asked for the «strengthening of the security of people and goods in the municipality of Alcoutim». This visit also served to introduce the new generation of Local Security Contracts (CLS).

The Secretary of State made known, therefore, both the framework of the CLS, as well as the organizational model and stages of the process.

Local Security Contracts aim to reduce “social vulnerabilities and the prevention of crime and juvenile delinquency”. The new generation of CLS intends to «find adequate responses to the socio-criminal specificities of each territory and promote cooperation between the central administration, local authorities and local communities», says the Alcoutim Chamber.

The new contracts will have three types: the «MAI Municipality», «MAI Bairro» and «MAI Citizen».

The «MAI Municipality» will have a municipal scope and will be directed towards the general prevention of crime and to increase the feeling of security of the populations, being here related to the appeal made to Isabel Oneto by the mayor of Alcoutim.

The «MAI Bairro» will have a more localized intervention and is geared towards criminal prevention, such as juvenile delinquency. The «MAI Citizen» in turn, aims to respond to specific situations, such as tourism and migratory movements.

Still on the issue of criminality, the Chamber of Alcoutim says that “the conditions under which the Guarda Nacional Republicana” develops its activity in the municipality were addressed.

Local Security Contracts are signed between the Ministry of Internal Administration and Municipalities and Parishes.
