valeboiResearchers from the Interdisciplinary Center for Archeology and Evolution of Human Behavior (ICArEHB) of the University of Algarve (UAlg) will set up an international field school, during the month of July 2017, at the archaeological site of Vale Boi, in Vila do Bispo.

This is the first project of its kind in Portugal and will be coordinated by researchers Nuno Bicho and João Cascalheira. The initiative is part of the archeology field schools program of the Institute for Field Research (IFR). The aim is for students from Archeology courses to participate in this initiative, both foreign and national, with Portuguese students having the same benefits as international ones.

The IFR is an American non-profit institution, headquartered in California, whose main objective is to offer unique opportunities for students from all over the world to participate in a very wide range of field schools of Archeology and related sciences.

Through an agreement between the IFR and the University of California, students who participate in these field schools receive curriculum credits that they can use at any American university.

«The process of evaluating applications and selecting proposals is very rigorous, taking into account the logistical conditions available for receiving students, the theoretical and practical training offer integrated in the school, and the scope and objectives of the research project in which students will participate and to which they will actively contribute,” says UAlg.

This project, which will be the first of its kind in Portugal, has open enrollment here and counts on support from the Vila do Bispo City Council.
