Olhão Fishing Port November 2016_HR_9The Port of Olhão will receive works, in 2017, valued at 250 thousand euros. The state of degradation of the port has received criticism, namely from Olhãopesca, and Docapesca, responsible for its administration, guarantees that, next year, there will be investment in infrastructure.

At the end of October, Olhãopesca, in a statement, called for “urgent measures in the port of fishery de Olhão, in order to guarantee the safety of people and goods” and denounced that one of the structures for the mooring of vessels “collapsed”. "By mere chance, there was no serious, fatal accident involving people and goods", stressed the producer organization, stressing that "all the other pontoons of the Fishing Port are in the same situation, that is, at risk of imminent collapse'.

Contacted by Sul Informação, Docapesca confirmed that, on October 17, "there was a partial collapse of one of the sections of the wharf on the west side of the port of Olhão, known as the sardine wharf of the old auction".

Docapesca, «immediately after this occurrence, in articulation with the Captaincy of the Port of Olhão, signaled the prohibition of access to the site, later reinforced through the publication of a Notice».

In addition to these repairs, Docapesca revealed that «for the year 2017, an investment in infrastructure in the order of 250 thousand euros is planned for the Port of Olhão».

Among the planned works are the creation of a network clothesline, the paving and rehabilitation of the road network, pedestrian and traffic planning in the area affected by the port area, the rehabilitation of the pier/support ramp for loading and unloading of goods , for the islands, the replacement of the electrical distribution cabinet at the gas station and the start-up of projects to capture salt water, a pumping and treatment plant and a fire water network».

In the statement sent to the newsrooms, Olhãopesca had also asked for the removal of the entire back of the port of fishing, an intervention that could take the first steps for the year, as Docapesca guarantees that, «In order to rigorously assess the existing conditions, during 2017, Docapesca will carry out a topo-hydrographic survey at the Port of Olhão».
