GNR Faro - SeizureA 39-year-old Dutch man, suspected of being the head of a cannabis growing and trafficking network operating in Olhão, was arrested last week in Spain.

The Public Ministry (MP), which issued a European arrest warrant for the man, explains that this “investigation began about a year ago and resulted in the dismantling of a network dedicated to the cultivation of cannabis plants in the Olhão area. », in particular in a warehouse in the industrial area, which was dismantled by the GNR on 30 August.

In this operation, three people were detained and two of them are still in preventive detention. According to the Public Ministry, "the suspect, now detained, would be the head of the network and had left the country, at the time the cannabis greenhouse was deactivated."

The cultivated drug was destined for the Portuguese and Spanish markets, according to the MP's statement.

The delivery of the detainee to the Portuguese authorities "is scheduled for tomorrow", and following this delivery, the man will be presented for judicial interrogation for the application of coercive measures.

The investigation is directed by the MP of the 2nd (specialized) section of Faro DIAP and is carried out by the GNR's Tavira Criminal Investigation Unit.
