AlbufeiraThe gypsy community that lives in shacks in the Orada area of Albufeira will be temporarily installed in prefabricated houses «with the proper living conditions» in Escarpão.

The measure taken by the Municipality of Albufeira, articulated with the local Santa Casa da Misericórdia, will benefit eight households, totaling 39 people.

This temporary solution for a community "which occupied and settled down in a land next to the Orada for more than two decades", was unanimously approved in the Chamber Meeting and also deserved the favorable vote of the majority of the deputies of the Municipal Assembly. The project was presented and discussed at the Albufeira Social Network Local Council, where it was also unanimously approved.

The Aldeia do Sanacai Insertion Community project «aims at providing these households with basic skills at a personal, housing, educational, professional and cultural level through multidisciplinary monitoring», as well as «promoting the sustainability of these households with a view to their autonomy» , according to the Council of Albufeira.

"This project assumes the need for this community to adopt new habits, new values and new ways of being, preserving and valuing the more specific cultural aspects of Gypsy culture, but seeking a balance between the individual and collective rights and duties of the Roma community and non-Roma communities», added the municipality.

On the other hand, Aldeia do Sanacai «will provide decent housing conditions and enable an immediate improvement in the life of this community, which includes 23 children and young people, who will see improved study and monitoring conditions, essential factors for promoting school success and the possibility of professional integration of adults'.
