The 8th edition of the Sweet Potato Festival takes place on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of October, in Cavaleiro, in the parish of São Teotónio, in Odemira.
In addition to the sale of sweet potatoes and the most varied regional sweets in which this product is used, there will be tastings of roasted and boiled sweet potatoes.
Cavaleiro is the area with the largest sweet potato production in the municipality of Odemira, and the Sweet Potato Festival has as its main objective «supporting local producers, promoting and marketing the product and energizing the locality», says the Chamber of Odemira.
This event will start at 19:30 pm on the 21st, Friday, at Centro Desportivo e Cultural do Cavaleiro, with the official opening of the party. At 21 pm, the performance of the group «Com Alma» is scheduled, which has Portuguese and Latin American music in its repertoire.
On Saturday, the 22nd, from 9:00 am, there will be sales and tastings of sweet potatoes and a handicraft exhibition. At 15 pm there will be a performance by Grupo Coral de São Luís. The day will end with a show by the traditional music group Banza.
On Sunday, the tents open from 11:00 am, and, at 13:30 pm, there will be a performance by the Folklore Group of the Casa do Povo in Vila Nova de Milfontes, followed by a matinee, at the Social Center, with the accordionist Ricardo Alves.
Entries are always free and, over the three days, Cavaleiro's restaurants will have several dishes and sweet potato-based sweets on their menus.
This party is promoted by the Centro Desportivo e Cultural do Cavaleiro, with the support of the Municipality of Odemira and the Parish Council of S. Teotónio.
