Young Water 2016_2017Enrollment for the «Concurso Água Jovem 2017», aimed at all students from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles of schools in the Algarve, is now open and must be made with the Portuguese Environment Association (APA). The competition modalities are drawing, text, video and audio, posters, models and happening/performance.

Applications must be made by the end of December. The works, however, need to be delivered by March 1, 2017 at the premises of Faro of the APA.

All works can be presented in any medium, whether paper, digital, multimedia or performance, informs Águas do Algarve, one of the promoters of this competition. This year there are two themes selected: sustainable tourism and water management in the Algarve and Lagoa dos Salgados.

The choice of these themes is linked to the fact that 2017 was declared the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, and the fact that Lagoa dos Salgados «is an important habitat for a great diversity of animals», says the company Águas do Algarve, such as the brown duck birds (Aythya Nyroca) and truck (porphyry porphyry).

All works will have a public presentation at the Água Jovem Forum, which will take place on March 22, 2017, when World Water Day is celebrated.

This competition aims to «raise the awareness of young people in the Algarve for the knowledge and preservation of the Water heritage», emphasizes Águas do Algarve. The success of this competition in previous years is due to «the commitment of the professors and the response of the students has resulted in high-value research work», adds the company.

The Água Jovem 2017 Contest is promoted by Águas do Algarve, Portuguese Environmental Agency IP (APA-ARH Algarve), and Mundo Aquático SA (Zoomarine). This year it also has the support of other entities, such as the Hubel Group, the General Directorate of School Establishments-Services Department Algarve Region (DGEstE-DS Algarve), the Institute for Nature and Forest Conservation, IP-Department of Nature Conservation and Forests of the Algarve (ICNF) and the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA).
