Tavira Municipal MuseumCristina Veiga-Pires, director of the Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve, will discuss, within the scope of the cycle «Walks in the history of Tavira», the scientific perspective of the 1755 Earthquake in the Algarve, on the 29th of October, at 10:30 am, in the room of the Educational Service of the Palácio da Galeria/Museum of Tavira.

To celebrate «Faro – Capital of Culture in 2005», the Algarve Living Science Center published a book entitled «Earthquake of 1755 in the Algarve» with two distinct perspectives: the historical and the scientific.

“About 10 years later, has the scientific view evolved or changed? Will there be any recent scientific discovery that can improve the knowledge of this past event and similar ones?”, asks the Câmara de Tavira.

In fact, this lecture “intends to give some answers about the evolution of scientific studies on this topic in a simple and decoded way”, adds the local authority.

This cycle «Walks in the History of Tavira» aims to make known the city's past, the urban landscape, monuments and historical characters, as well as raising awareness of the need to protect and enhance the heritage heritage.

Registration is free and mandatory and is intended for the general public, but is limited to 50 participants. Those interested must fill in this registration form and send it to the Educational Service of the Municipal Museum of Tavira, via e-mail [email protected] or deliver it at the reception of the Municipal Museum of Tavira/Palácio da Galeria, from Tuesday to Saturday from 09:00 am to 16:30 pm.
