Nuno Alexandrino - CopyA concert by organist Nuno Alexandrino, accompanied by Coral Adágio, will kick off the 2016 edition of the Algarve Organ Festival, this Friday, October 28, at 21 pm, at the Igreja Matriz in Portimão. This year, the event of the Música XXI association starts in Portimão and will be held, until the 30th of November, in five churches in the municipalities of Loulé, Faro and Tavira.

In this inaugural concert, the program has two parts. In the first one, Nuno Alexandrino will perform «arias, preludes, fantasies, suites and andantes» on the organ, solo. «In the second part of the concert, emphasis on the demanding work “Stabat Mater” by João Rodrigues Esteves, for Choir and Organ. This work refers to the suffering of Mary, being considered a religious hymn on which several musical compositions were elaborated», according to Música XXI.

Nuno Alexandrino has a degree in Organ from the Lisbon Superior School of Music, where he studied with Antoine Sibertin-Blanc. He was a student at the Utrecht School of Arts (Netherlands), where he studied Organ with Willem Tanke. He attended several Organ Masterclasses, with prestigious organists.

Grupo Coral Adágio was born in Portimão in 1989 and has as Conductor António Alves. He acts in several socio-cultural events, in Portugal and abroad. The Group's eclectic repertoire includes pieces from the Renaissance to the present, from sacred polyphony to black spirituals, passing through popular music from Portugal and other countries.

The Algarve Organ Festival, that for the first time leaves the borders of Faro, to go to other cities in the Algarve, goes to the Igreja Matriz in Boliqueime, which will host the first of the organ concerts on the 4th of November, with the organist João Paulo Janeiro.

On November 11th, the event returns to the Matrix of Portimão, which this time will host the organist Rafael Reis. On November 18, organist Nuno Alexandrino returns to work, now in Boliqueime.

In Tavira, the Church of Santiago welcomes the organist Tiago Ferreira on the 18th of November and the following week, on the 25th of November, the organ of the Igreja da Misericórdia will echo through the hands of Tadeu Filipe. the concerts in Faro they begin on November 5th, at Igreja do Carmo, in chamber music format, with João Paulo Janeiro and Filipa Oliveira (organ and recorder), followed by a solo performance on November 12th by organist Rafael Reis .

in the Cathedral of Faro, the historical organ will sound on November 19th, by the organist Tiago Ferreira, while the closing of the Festival will be in charge of Tadeu Filipe, on November 26th.

The concerts always start at 21 pm and admission is free.

The Algarve Organ Festival – 2016 is organized by Associação Cultural Música XXI. It has the support of the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and the Municipalities of Faro, Loulé, Tavira and Portimão, with support for the dissemination of the Algarve Tourism Region and with communication partners Antena 2, Sul Informação and FM Street.
