The theater companies AL Teatro, from the Algarve, and Baal 1, from the Alentejo, will premiere this month, in Serpa e Silves, their new co-production “Tráfico”, a “satirical vision of reality” written by the Galician playwright Carlos Santiago.
The play will premiere tomorrow, Wednesday, the 19th, at the Cineteatro Municipal de Serpa, then heading to Silves, where it performs for the first time on the 27th, at 21 pm, at Teatro Mascarenhas Gregório.
It is «a tragic, raw and obscene comedy, where the blood flows without restraint», through which Carlos Santiago, against the «background of the crisis and the drift of capitalism, uses black humor for a reading satirical world news (to which Portugal is not alien)», explains the Baal Theater Company 17.
Carlos Santiago portrays a "world corrupted by power and money" and in which traffickers "of all kinds, all kinds, of all things, of many people, swarm among us," adds Baal17.
In the play, "an obscure woman, Medeia, runs a unique Hotel", the "Hotel Balneário Olimpo", where "stress cures to drug dealers in need of rest and rest" are offered.
But, "in reality, the business hides a more Machiavellian purpose than meeting the therapeutic needs of organized crime: revenge, drawn with passion by the protagonist, against those who betrayed her."
In Serpa, the piece can be seen between the 19th and 22nd of October. In Silves, “Tráfico” will be presented on the 27th to the 29th of October and the 4th and 5th of November, at 21 pm, and also on the 30th of October and the 30th of November, at 6 pm. It will also be presented on November 16, at Teatro Garcia de Resende, in Évora.
The play, staged by Galician Chiqui Pereira and performed by actors Bárbara Soares, Filipe Gonçalves, Filipe Seixas, Pedro Ramos and Rui Ramos, was co-produced under an agreement between the Ministry of Culture/Directorate-General for the Arts, the municipalities of Serpa and Silves and the two companies.
