Parking Day2A walk “for your health” in Loulé, a concentration of bicycles, tricycles and prams in Lagos, or a cultural night tour in Portimão are some of the activities promoted by the six Algarve municipalities that joined the European Mobility Week , which starts this Friday, the 16th of September, and continues until the 22nd.

The cultural tour in Portimão will take place on the 21st of September, at 21 pm, with a meeting point at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes.

In Lagos, on Avenida dos Descobrimentos, the concentration of bicycles, tricycles and baby carriages takes place on Saturday, the 17th, at 17:00.

The walk “for your health”, to be held in Loulé, is on September 16, at 20:30, departing and arriving at Avenida José da Costa Mealha.

The European Mobility Week encompasses three types of initiatives: carrying out activities that promote the use of collective or non-polluting means of transport, the adoption of permanent measures by municipalities, which also enhance the use of collective or non-polluting means of transport. non-polluting; and the adhesion to the “European Car Free Day”, which takes place on the 22nd.

In addition to the aforementioned activities, these three municipalities, as well as the rest of the six Algarve citizens participating in the European Mobility Week, will have other initiatives.

From the 16th to the 22nd of September, those who park in the Frente Ribeirinha underground car park, on Avenida dos Descobrimentos, will receive a trip on the urban public transport of Lagos – Onda. When using these transports, a voucher for use in the sports services of the municipal company Lagos em Forma.

During these days, pedal and electric bicycles will be rented with a 30% discount for residents in the municipality of Lagos.

On the 19th of September, at the Municipal Sports Complex, there will be a free health screening and nutritional information, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 14:00 pm to 17:00 pm.

The next day, there is free use of the gym and swimming pool, also in the Municipal Sports Complex.

On September 21, the day is dedicated to activities on sustainable mobility with the distribution of informative material on the subject. The opening hours will be from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm and from 14:00 pm to 17:00 pm at the Ciência Viva Center.

On the same day, there is an exhibition of alternative vehicles with recyclable materials, by Idalécio Ventura. At 11:30 am and 17:00 pm there are zumba and pilates classes at Praça Gil Eanes.

The European Car Free Day (September 22) will also be celebrated in Lagos, starting at 10:00 am, at Praça Gil Eanes, with a competition and games on Sustainable Mobility. All day long urban public transport and the tourist train are free. The challenge, says the Câmara de Lagos, is to «give the car off and replace it with non-polluting vehicles (free public transport, bicycle, walking)».

Portimao:

The Municipality of Portimão will also participate in the European Mobility Week, with «activities with the objective of providing citizens with opportunities to travel on foot, by bicycle or by public transport, instead of the car, allowing a discovery of the city, its heritage. and of its inhabitants in a healthier and more sustainable environment», says the Câmara de Portimão.

On the 16th of September there is an Exhibition of Antique Bikes in the Market on Avenida S. João de Deus promoted by Torrado Bikes which will be on display until the 24th of September.

On September 20, at 19:30 pm, the bandstand will be the meeting point for a Bike Tour under the motto “Pedalando & Petiscando”, representing an invitation to people to leave their cars at home and ride a bicycle along the Route of the Petisco , being mandatory to bring the Petisco Route Passport.

On September 21, with a view to discovering the city, its heritage and its inhabitants, there will be a Night Cultural Tour, scheduled for 21:00 and with a meeting point at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes, on Rua Júdice Biker. Registration and information will be made at Casa Manuel Texeira Gomes.

On September 22, European Car Free Day, it will be possible to walk around the city center in a different way. Alameda da Praça da República will be the main stage for various activities of “Intelligent Mobility” with educational actions within the scope of the Safe School of PSP and GNR with students from Basic and Secondary Establishments in Portimão.

«Considering that healthy lifestyle habits, such as walking and exercising, undoubtedly contribute to a better quality of life, the Municipality of Portimão, through the Sports Division, will promote, on this day, at 18:00h, the action “Sport to Ar Livre” – Fitness and Zumba classes”, says the Portimão Chamber.

The program also includes another initiative organized by the Operational Center for Civil Protection of Portimão, which includes two actions: a Road Safety Exhibition and a simulation of an Extrication Action.

Of the set of initiatives scheduled for this week, there is also the partnership established with the Associação Teia de Impulsos, in which holders of the Rota do Petisco 2016 passport are given the opportunity to travel for free on the Vai e Vem, by simply presenting the your passport to drivers.

On September 22 – European Car Free Day, car traffic will be closed in Alameda de Portimão, with the exception of Rua França Borges which gives access to the underground car park under Praça da República. These measures evoke mutual respect between vehicles (cars, bicycles, etc.) and pedestrians, thus seeking to encourage the use of soft modes (pedestrian mobility, cycling, etc.) and enhance the experience and enjoyment of the street.

The adoption of permanent measures is one of the measures contemplated in the European Mobility Week and in Portimão the measure to be presented is to make the section of Rua da Hortinha, between Rua Diogo Gonçalves and Rua Machado dos Santos, a section of approximately 160 meters, in a coexistence zone and reinforce the signs in the coexistence zone, established in 2014 on Rua Direita.

Finally, on the 21st, there will be the seminar “Loulé Adapta – Urban Mobility”, from 14:30 pm to 18:30 pm, followed, on the 22nd, by the “100 Bikes at School Day” initiative, aimed at all students in the municipality.

With regard to the implementation of permanent measures, the municipality of Loulé adopted, this year, measures such as promoting the use of bicycles by young people or the purchase of electric buses.

Lagoa, like Loulé, will join the three initiatives. On September 16, “Park(ing) Day” will invite artists, designers and citizens to transform parking spaces into small temporary public parks, in Lagoa, in the Paços do Concelho Building, in Ferragudo, in Largo do Mercado, and in Carvoeiro, in the paid parking lot next to the parapharmacy.

The next day, there will be a zumba class and a walk in Largo da Senhora da Rocha.

The 18th will also be marked by physical activity with a walking and cycling route along the Ecovia do Litoral, in the section of the municipality of Lagoa, an activity developed in partnership with the Municipality's Sports Services and the municipality's Sports Associations.

For the 19th, 20th and 21st of September, the Mobility Fair will be held at the Lagoa Transit School. Tavira:

Tavira, just like Faro, will only join the European Car Free Day, an initiative that will include the closing of the following arteries of the city: Rua da Liberdade, Praça da República, Rua Dr. José Pires Padinha and Rua do Cais.
