rain3The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) reveals that the first rains in September will arrive tomorrow, and may even reach the southern regions of the country, namely the Algarve.

Thus, according to IPMA, during the afternoon of Monday, September 12th, the cloudiness will gradually increase, with conditions for showers, dispersed and infrequent, but which may be accompanied by thunderstorm, in the interior regions, during the evening".

From the end of the afternoon, there should start to be «rain periods in the regions of the North and Center coasts», which gradually, from the early morning of Tuesday, will spread throughout the entire territory and start to showers, which they can be strong and accompanied by thunderstorm».

Starting in the afternoon, the cloudiness decreases in the southern region, but it is expected that, on Wednesday, the 14th, there will still be showers, especially in the northern and central regions.

On the 13th, the temperature should undergo a “sharp drop”, with the maximum temperature forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday lower than 25ºC throughout the territory, not exceeding 16ºC in the highlands of the interior North and Center. In Faro, 25ºC are forecast on Tuesday and 23ºC on Wednesday, while in Portimão the forecasts point to 24ºC and 22ºC on the same days. Monchique will have a much cooler 21ºC and 19ºC.

IPMA recommends taking into account the “possibility of flooding due to accumulation of debris in rainwater pipes”.
