The two fronts of the fire that reactivated in the Serra de Monchique, this Wednesday, at 19:57 pm, already extend "for more than five kilometers", as revealed to the Sul Informação source of the Monchiquense municipality that is on the ground.
The fire continues to burn a forested area near the town of Casais, with firefighters focusing their action on protecting the many scattered houses in the area and its inhabitants. One of the fronts heads towards Almarjões and the other towards Gralhos, both near Casais.
The intensity of the wind is helping a rapid spread of the fire, which is already evolving south of Casais, towards the municipality of Portimão, after having passed the road between Casais and Marmelete.
Despite everything, according to the District Center for Relief Operations (CDOS), there is no information on victims or substantial material damage.
According to the CDOS, there are «203 operational supported by 66 vehicles, from all the fire brigades in the Algarve».
