The Alcoutim Chamber is going to award the Municipality's Medal of Honor to Francisco Amaral, current president of the Castro Marim Chamber, but who had previously been, for two decades, the Alcoutenejo mayor. The award, the highest distinction in that municipality in the interior of the Algarve, will be delivered on Friday morning, Alcoutim Municipality Day.
Francisco Amaral (PSD) will receive the distinction from the hands of his successor in office, the socialist Osvaldo Gonçalves. The award in question is intended "to reward natural or legal persons, national or foreign, who have provided the municipality of Alcoutim with services considered relevant and exceptional, namely those that result in greater reputation and prestige for the municipality, greater collective benefit, or distinguished personalities who officially visit Alcoutim», according to the Chamber of Castro Marim.
"Mário Soares and Jorge Sampaio, Mário Soares and Jorge Sampaio, have already been awarded to two Presidents of the Republic on an official visit to the municipality of Alcoutim, to D. Ximenes Belo and João Dias, a distinguished physician and extraordinary surgeon in that municipality", added the municipality of Castromarinense.
The current mayor of Castro Marim had already been awarded the rank of Commander of the Order of Merit, which was awarded to him by the President of the Republic in 2007.
