He returns to the position that was once his, but with more areas and skills…and less money. Custódio Moreno is, since Monday, September 12, the new regional director of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ).

Custódio Moreno, who is a 1st cycle teacher at the Vertical Grouping of Schools, headquartered at Escola EB 23 João da Rosa, in Olhão, and who in recent years has taught the curricular areas of “Motor Physical Expression” and “Living Olimpism”, he was appointed on a replacement basis, until the competition, through CRESAP, to fill the position takes place. Custódio Moreno had already been regional delegate of the then Portuguese Youth Institute (IPJ), in the District of Faro, in the period from 1996 to 2003, so it can be said that he is now returning to a house he knows well, although he now also has to manage the IPDJ's competences in the area of ​​Sports… and with a shorter budget than in the IPJ's times .

 

Who is Custodio Moreno?

Custódio Moreno, born on December 14, 1962, in Olhão, has a degree in Education in the area of ​​School Management and Educational Administration from ISCE de Odivelas.

He started his professional career, in teaching, in 1986, as a 1st Cycle teacher, where he held various positions: advisor to the Management Body, vice-president of the Executive Committee and deputy to the Director.

Currently, he taught the curricular areas of “Physical Motor Expression” and “Living Olympism”.

Between 1988 and 2003, he worked at the Portuguese Youth Institute, initially as a technician, then as an assistant to the Regional Delegate and, finally, as the Regional Delegate of the IPJ in the District of Faro, in the period from 1996 to 2003.

As a mayor, his election for five terms as president of the Parish Council of Pechão (1993 to 2013) stands out. He was also deputy to the mayor of Olhão City Council (2003 to 2006). It also played an important role in the implementation and coordination of the Municipal Youth House of Olhão and support to Associations, Culture, Sports and Youth.

Simultaneously with his professional activity, he performed other important functions and positions, namely, as a member of the Olympic Academy of Portugal.

He was also an association leader, linked to the foundation and promotion of dozens of youth cultural and sports associations in Olhão and throughout the Algarve, as well as a Football and Athletics coach from 1978 to 1994.

Custódio Moreno has been a speaker at numerous conferences, colloquia and sessions on Olympism, Associations, Sports and Youth.

He was a trainer in several courses for Association Leaders, Youth Entertainers and Monitors and Sports Coaches.

He has written and published articles in newspapers, magazines and books on the topic of Youth and Sport.
