A flow of warm, dry air from North Africa will cause a gradual rise in temperature until 6 September, announced today by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
Between the 2nd and 4th of September, the maximum temperature will vary between 30 and 35ºC in most of the territory, reaching values close to 40ºC in the interior of Alentejo, Beira Baixa and Ribatejo.
The western coastal strip will record maximum temperature values between 25 and 30ºC, with the occurrence of morning cloudiness and breeze in the afternoon.
On the 5th and 6th of September, the maximum temperature will register a slight rise, reaching values between 35 and 42ºC in almost all of the continental territory.
During this period, the minimum temperature will also rise, with the occurrence of tropical nights (minimum temperature above 20°C), especially in the Center and South regions and on the 5th and 6th, with values close to 25°C in some locations in the southern region.
On the 7th, a sharp drop in temperature is expected, especially the maximum, with a drop between 10 and 12°C in some places, adds the IPMA.
Like Sul Informação had already reported this morning, the hottest location in the Algarve will be Alcoutim, where temperatures will be around 37°C today and rise tomorrow and Sunday to 38°C and even reach 42°C on Monday, the 5th.
For Faro, it is predicted 33°C today, 34°C tomorrow and Sunday and 40°C on Monday, Albufeira will have temperatures between 32°C (today) and 40°C on Monday, just like Portimão, which will rise from 32°C today, to 33°C tomorrow, 35°C on Sunday and 40th on Monday.
Even Sagres, which is usually the coolest place in the Algarve, will have temperatures between 30 and 37ºC.
The temperature of the sea water also accompanies these high values, lying between 22º in Sagres and 26º in the area of Monte Gordo.
