mobility weekThe Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve (AMAL) is developing, through the VAMUS project, a mobile and web application that “will help those traveling in the Algarve to rethink the means of transport used according to the environmental and financial impact”.

The VAMUS – Sustainable Urban Mobility Project in the Algarve and the commitment associated with it are, in fact, seen as boosters of the Algarve's reinforced participation in the European Mobility Week, which starts this Friday, the 16th, and runs until September 22nd , dedicated to Smart Mobility as a way to boost a Strong Economy.

This year, underlines AMAL, there are eight municipalities in the Algarve, double the number registered in 2015, which will test the use of alternatives to private cars in initiatives promoted during the European Mobility Week.

Pedestrian and bicycle routes, streets transformed into walking areas, parking spaces given over to artistic creations and the launch of infrastructure to encourage travel on two wheels are examples of the many activities planned in the region, which translate into an expressive reinforcement of the Algarve's participation in this community initiative that seeks a broad debate on the need to change behavior in relation to mobility.

By way of an invitation to the Algarvians to participate in the vast program of the Algarve's municipalities (Faro, Lagoa, Lagos, Loulé, Portimão, São Brás de Alportel, Silves and Tavira), the AMAL developed an online platform, where at the distance of a click on the map of the region, it is possible to get to know all the details of each initiative, as well as the forms of registration, if applicable.

It informational tool will be accessible on the website dedicated to the project that mobilizes both municipalities and various institutional partners in the mission of projecting the mobility of the future in the Algarve.

AMAL's participation in this European event through the so-called “Actions for Mobility” is materialized with initiatives that promote a more sustainable urban mobility culture throughout the year, namely by increasing the number of participating municipalities, as well as the aforementioned online platform.

In addition to the aggregation tool for the European Mobility Week program and the sustainable urban mobility project, the Intermunicipal Community is developing, through VAMUS, a mobile and web application that will help those traveling in the Algarve to reconsider the means of transport used according to the environmental and financial impact.

Also within the scope of the VAMUS – Sustainable Urban Mobility Project in the Algarve, the work teams are «completing the diagnosis of the region, so that, based on the identified needs and opportunities, they can project, by the end of the year, the mobility of the future based on principles of universal access and efficiency and sustainability in the solutions adopted».

AMAL points out that, within the scope of the VAMUS project, Algarve residents, visitors and tourists still have time to share how they currently move within the region and why mobility options they would like to be able to choose in the future, by filling in an questionnaire accessible on the project page hosted at the address www.vamus.pt.
