trail runningThe 3rd edition of Ultra Trail Rocha da Pena (UTRP) takes place next Sunday, August 7th, in Salir.

The UTRP is the first event, held in the Algarve, to integrate the national trail running circuit and to score for the biggest event of the sport in the world: the UTMB – Mont Blanc's Ultra Trail.

Registration for the three races – 50, 25 and 15 km, as well as for the 15 km walk, are already sold out.

UTRP - newsletter 1-01The departures for the tests will be at 7:00 am, for 50 kilometers, at 8:00 am, for 25 kilometers, and at 9:00 am, for 15 kilometers. The arrival of the first athletes of 25 and 15 kilometers is scheduled for 10:00 am, while the one of 50 kilometers should arrive at 11:30 am.

According to Algarve Trail Running, one of the entities that organize the event, the UTRP will have «more than 600 athletes of various nationalities, including the entire national elite of the sport, with a large influx of public expected to attend the provision of athletes arriving and departing at the Salir sports complex, as well as in the show zones marked by the organization along the courses».

This event also follows the national phenomenon of running in contact with nature and aims to promote the interior through sport, showing its natural beauties, in this case, around the Protected Landscape of Rocha da Pena.

For this 3rd edition, a space for children was also created, a novelty compared to previous years.

Ultra Trail Rocha da Pena is an organization of the ATR-Algarve Trail Running Association, the ACS-Salir Cultural Association and the ACS Motorism Section (Salir TT), with the support of the Loulé City Council, the Salir Parish Council and the Union of Parishes of Querença, Tôr and Benafim. The organization also has the support of several local and national companies.
