octopus weekFrom the more traditional proposals – octopus rice or octopus à lagareiro or in cataplana – to the most innovative – octopus with basil foam and potato pallet with orange zest or braised octopus with chimichurri sauce with sprung sprouts and new potatoes on silver and fine herbs -, the Octopus Week in Quarteira, which starts on September 10th, has many initiatives and suggestions for all tastes.

Gastronomic shows in various restaurants in the parish, workshops of sushi and Mediterranean cuisine, a recipe contest, showcooking, sensory activities for children, an exhibition of sculptures and a seminar dedicated to the traditional octopus make up the 2016 Octopus Week menu.

The main course will be served by 28 restaurants in the parish of Quarteira (click here to consult the list), which will make the most diverse recipes based on octopus.

The realization of two workshops dedicated to sushi and Mediterranean cuisine, based on octopus, are also part of the initiative. They take place on the 10th and 11th of September, respectively, and require prior registration.

For residents in the municipality of Loulé, registration for the Traditional Octopus recipe competition is now open. The organization provides the necessary ingredients to make the recipe and the winner will have a prize of 150 euros.

Entries, free of charge for the recipe competition and with a cost of 25 euros for the workshops, take place until 8 September, at the Parish Council of Quarteira, at the premises of Armalgarve Polvo (Rua D. João V, Miravila Shopping Centre, Store 4, 8125-207 Quarteira) or by email [email protected] or [email protected].

“The octopus is not a bad animal” sets the tone for the exhibition that will open on the 10th and will be on display throughout the week on Rua Vasco da Gama, in Quarteira. The works were developed by the children of the IPSS in Quarteira.

Still dedicated to children, a session of sensory activities developed by Docapesca will take place on the 14th.
