Portimonense_2016 2017Portimonense won this Sunday, at home, against Penafiel, by 3-2, thus remaining in charge of the II League.

The match played at the Estádio Municipal de Portimão was very emotional, with many goals and comebacks and an almost mind-blowing first-half.

The home team opened the scoring in the 26th minute, with a goal by Pires, in a very fast counterattack very well unmarked by Amilton, and then, with coolness, shooting out of reach of the goalkeeper from Penafidelense Ivo.

Two minutes later, a bucket of cold water for the Algarvians. The referee marks a penalty against Portimonense for lack of Sarpong, who would see the yellow card, inside the penalty area. Pedro Ribeiro converted in the 29th minute, making the tie. Ricardo Ferreira, the goalkeeper of Portimão, still defended to the post, but the ball bounced on his back and entered the alvinegra goal.

Four minutes later, at 33′, the stadium jumped again: Ivo Nicolau scored for Portimonense, following a free-kick scored by Paulinho for Penafiel.

Until the end of the first half, Portimonense continued to press. In the opening of the second half, Penafiel made changes: Romeu Ribeiro came out and Fernando Andrade came on.

On the restart, the Algarvians returned full of desire to hold the advantage and Ivo Nicolau, scorer of the second goal, got a yellow card after 46′.

A minute later, it was Penafiel's turn to re-establish equality: João Paulo scored for the Northern club, following a free-kick into the area that reached higher and placed the ball with the header out of reach of goalkeeper Ricardo Ferreira .

There followed minutes of great pressure from Penafiel, saved by the good interventions of the Portimonense goalkeeper: on 49′, Penafiel's corner with Ricardo Ferreira punching away, a minute later Ricardo Ferreira's new defense, André Fontes' shot .

But at 60′, Vítor Oliveira's men took the lead again, with Amilton's header sending Ivo Nicolau's first header into the net, following a corner. by Ricardo Pessoa.

A very tough phase followed, with several substitutions from both teams and many yellow cards, for André Fontes and Fernando, from Penafiel, and also for Zambujo, from Portimonense.

As the end of the match approached, at 87′ the referee awarded a penalty against Penafiel for a foul on Buba. The move would also be sanctioned with two more yellow cards for as many northern players: Pedro Ribeiro and João Paulo.

However, called to score, Ricardo Pessoa missed the penalty, shooting denounced for Ivo's defense.

In a second-half marked by a lot of aggression, in the 90th minute, Ivo Nicolau received a red card and was sent off for alleged aggression against an opponent.

With the result 3-2, Penafiel never let up, and, in the second minute of the three added time, Wellington shot at Portimonense's goal, but the shot went too far.

Final result: 3-2 in favor of Portimonense, who thus adds their second consecutive victory in the II League and remains in 1st position, with the same six points as Santa Clara, but with an advantage in number of goals. It's a good gift for the Portimão club, which today celebrates its 102nd anniversary.
