festivallucia3The first edition of Festival de Lucía, an unprecedented event in homage to the eternal genius of the guitar, Paco de Lucía, sold out last Saturday, August 20, at the Revelim de Santo António, in Castro Marim.

The Festival «was a memorable success and follows the path that the Castro Marim City Council wants to give to this initiative», stresses the municipality.

The full audience, in an intimate show and where contact with the public was privileged, enjoyed the concert by Pedro Jóia Trio, with the guitar of Pedro Jóia, himself a disciple of Paco de Lucía, the accordion of João Frade and Norton Daiello in contrabass.

The voice of Mariza, the godmother and ambassador of this event, completed the magic of this night, in a show marked by delivery, revealing the fado singer's passion for this territory, which she joined to celebrate the legacy of Paco de Lucía.

Paco de Lucía, recognized as one of the best composers and guitarists in the world, had his roots in Castro Marim, more specifically in Monte Francisco, the land where his mother, Luzia, was born.

«It is in this connection that the Festival de Lucía is based, honoring a guitar of various languages, crossings and hues, like the one that Paço de Lucía inhabited its audience, but also honoring women, through the memory of his mother, whose joy and countenance Lusitano has always inspired him», explains the municipality.

Later this year, the Castro Marim City Council will proceed with the construction of a memorial to Paco de Lucía in the square where his mother lived, with the aim of strengthening the bond with the guitarist and creating a place of pilgrimage and pilgrimage for admirers of the one who is the absolute master of flamenco.

Annually, for the 2nd edition of the “Festival de Lucía” the presence of producer Javier Limón, who was also producer of several Paco de Lucía records and winner of several Grammys, has already been confirmed.
