Perdigões Museum-piece found in excavations (6)The Interdisciplinary Center for Archeology and Evolution of Human Behavior (ICArEHB) of the University of Algarve, in collaboration with the Municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz, Herdade do Esporão and Era Arqueologia SA, will promote the Open Day at the Archaeological Complex of Perdigões, on the 6th of August next.

The Perdigões Archaeological Complex, located in Herdade do Esporão, in Reguengos de Monsaraz, opens its doors to all who want to know more about the Neolithic and Chalcolithic periods and about one of the most fascinating sites of Portuguese archeology.

There will be a guided tour of the archaeological excavation (9:30 am) and a lecture on the theme “Perdigões and the “Song of the Swan” of prehistoric ditches” (12:00), followed by a visit to the Esporão and cocktail cellars.

More than 5 years ago, the Perdigões were an important sanctuary where populations from various regions converged to perform rituals linked to death, the cult of ancestors and the symbolic world.

The Perdigões project has been investigated for 18 years, under the responsibility of António Valera, an integrated researcher at the ICArEHB, and it is currently one of the most fruitful projects dedicated to the knowledge of the reality of ditches in recent Prehistory Iberian.

Applications must be made by the 4th of August, through the emails [email protected] or [email protected].
