The rhythms of folklore return to Faro, for the 14th edition of the Folk festivalFaro, which runs from the 20th to the 28th of August. “On the Path of the Rhythms of the World” is the theme of this edition.
This year, the FolkFaro has the presence of 16 groups, selected from more than a hundred proposals, both national and international.
From Germany comes the group Ensemble Thea Maass; do Brasil, the presence of the Folklore Group Arte Nativa is confirmed. Parangal Dance Company will be representing the Philippines.
From France, the Groupe Folklorique Nice La Belle will act, and from Georgia it will come to Faro the TSU Folk Dance Ensemble University. Finally, originally from Kenya, the group Nairobi Dance Ensemble will also perform in this edition of FolkFaro.
In addition to international groups, there will also be a place for national folklore groups. Are confirmed, for the 14th edition of FolkFaro, the Cabeca Veada Folklore Ranch, from Porto de Mós, the Fânzeres Regional Ranch, from Gondomar, the Vila Nova do Coito Folklore Ranch, from Santarém, and the Rusga de Joane Ethnographic Group, from Famalicão.
The organizing region will also be represented by the Friends of Montenegro Folklore and Ethnographic Group and by the Folklore Group of Faro – Adult, Children and “Cancioneiro”.
All these groups will participate in the Folk Opening GalaFaro, which takes place on Saturday, August 20th, at 21 pm, at Teatro das Figuras, and will feature the special participation of the group Shadows Team.
This year, the performances of FolkFaro return tothe stage of the Doca promenade, simultaneously with the Feira dos Doces, Dried Fruits and Regional Drinks.
Every day, in addition to the concerts, there will be special guest appearances by João de Deus Dance Club, CDA – Algarve Dance Company, by Versus Tuna, by the Urban Xpression group and by Sandra Cristo & Filipe Neves.
the folkFaro there will also be street entertainment, in the Municipal Market and downtown, special programs for children at the Library and at Refúgio Aboim Ascenção, for the elderly in various institutions and for inmates, at the Prison of Faro, to which the dance workshops in the Escola EB 2,3 Santo António and at Q – Espaço Cultura, and an Ecumenical Celebration at Igreja da Sé, on the last day of the festival.
