A new edition of «Trail do Lince», an initiative that invites you to walk or run along the trails of the lynx, in Silves and Monchique, will take place on 8 October.

This is an event with a strong focus on environmental awareness, which combines a non-competitive journey designed for families with two competitions of trail running, one shorter and the other longer, only suitable for those who are very used to running on mountain paths.

Those interested in participating can apply now on the «Trail do Lynx» website. For that, they will have to “adopt” an Iberian Lynx, which is the same as acquiring a World Wide Fund, an organization that promotes the initiative together with the League for the Protection of Nature and the Algarve Trail Running Association. Each plush lynx costs €19,90, with €5 reverting to the League for the Protection of Nature (LPN) e World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Both organizations actively contribute to the preservation of the most endangered feline on the planet.

Once the formality of adopting a lynx has been completed, a species that was on the brink of extinction and whose recovery is the central object of an existing center in Silves, participants can opt for the 12-kilometer walk, for a between short, with the same distance (accumulated slope of 800m » D+400 m), or by a between long, 30 kilometers, which will take place in Monchique.

In other words, to register for the Trail, those interested must first adopt the Iberian Lynx and then choose one of the modalities, such as the Long Trail (30 km), with a registration fee of 15 euros, and the Short Trail (12 km) or Walk (12 km), for 10 euros.

According to the Chamber of Silves, which supports this event, the Linc Trailand «it is the only sporting event that offers the opportunity to walk the tracks of the Iberian lynx in the regions of Silves and Monchique, aiming to capture the public's attention with a taste for walking and trail, contributing to the preservation of this species in Portugal».

After the success of the first edition of Trail do Lince, which had more than 300 participants, the organization plans to double the number of entries and unite the population, non-governmental organizations, the State and companies for the reintroduction of this species in its natural habitat.
