Farcume 2014Directors and actors from Russia, France, Spain and from various parts of Portugal made a point of making the trip to the Algarve, to be at the Farcume - Short Film Festival of Faro, which started this Wednesday and can be seen until Saturday, at the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School.

In all, there will be 26 people connected to the films that will be shown, most of them Portuguese, a record in this field.

According to Bruno Lage, president of the association Faro 1540, which organizes the festival, the highlight of the 2016 edition of the event is «the large amount of Portuguese short films», which is reflected in the number of directors and actors present. «In the 1st and 2nd year, the festival was entirely in Portuguese. From then on, the national production decreased, in number and quality. This year there was a tree of Portuguese films, with a high average level of quality», he told, in statements to Sul Informação.

«We will have three short films from the Algarve, all of them fiction, by directors from Tavira, Faro and Albufeira», added Bruno Lage.

“I think this increase is due to the improvement in the conditions for breeding. For the rest, Portuguese directors have always made good shorts, in general», he considered.

A greater profusion of Portuguese works does not prevent Farcume from having short films from the four corners of the world, as has been customary in the most recent editions of the Farense festival. In 2016, there are films from 47 countries, including European countries such as Spain, Germany, Greece, France, Italy, Russia and Sweden, from all over the American continent (USA, Canada, Mexico, Colombia and Brazil, among others) and from countries such as Iran, Iraq, India, Israel, Australia, Vietnam and the Philippines.

The films will be divided into five categories – Animation, Documentary, Fiction, Videoclips and Cinema of the World – and the three best films of each will be chosen by an independent jury, «there may be room for honorable mentions». "The very short prize will also be given to the best film with less than 4,5 minutes", added Bruno Lage.

The showing of the films always starts at 21 pm and the evenings always end with a meeting at the Os Artistas bar, in Baixa de Faro. Festival tickets cost 8 euros and can be purchased on the Farcume website, on the Bilheteiraonline.pt platform at the CTT stations, at Worten, at FNAC and at Os Artistas, in Faro. Daily tickets are purchased at the venue on the same day and cost 3 euros.
